Just Fred,' the man responds.

The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break and write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it.

The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. 'Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?' The biker replies, 'It's a long story, so stay with me.'

I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD.

After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through School, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. I need to get with it, though, as I am only a bit over six months away from riding the Tour de USA 2010 for prostate cancer awareness. The ride covers 7,667.9 miles, Los Angeles to Washington, DC and back, by way of the annual gathering at Sturgis, SD in early August.

My weekend’s training ride went from Manhattan Beach to the famous Rock Store on Mullholland Highway, Cornell, California. It was a fairly short ride of just over a hundred miles, but we rode there via Pacific Coast Highway and up Decker and Encinal Canyons. Great ride, and a few thrills when you hit a 180 degree turn just a bit too fast and hear your foot peg talking to you.

My riding partner, Hog-nut Mike, was kind enough to take a few pictures while I was busy handing out information on this summer’s Tour de USA® for prostate cancer, which we believe will be the longest motorcycle charity rally in history. I've been trying for six months now to find sponsors for the Tour de USA to gain some attention for prostate cancer and, nada, rein, nichts, zip, nothin'. Either I'm terrible at this, or no one really cares about prostate cancer unless they personally get tagged with it. In the meantime, the gals come up with the "What Color is Your Bra" campaign that sweeps Facebook in a week. A British friend suggested we counter with a "How Large is Your Wanker," but I'm not sure that would have the same effect. Men are a natural constituency for breasts, we pretty much venerate and cherish them. Is our manly equipment just too prosaic and functional to get this kind of any attention? Maybe it's time to get a few more "Full Monty" teams in action. After all, Michelangelo's David (a copy) stands in the Palazzo Vecchio baring all.

Official Tour Slogan for the Tour de USA

Hi All:

I’ve been looking for a way to capture guys attention about the Tour de USA. I’m timing the beginning of the trip so that I can dedicate a paver in the main street at Sturgis to the men who have died from prostate cancer. That date means that I’ll likely be crossing the panhandle the very last week of August, which should not be all that bad since the average high in August is 90 degrees. I now have someone helping me plan the project, a fellow UCLA Anderson alumus, so things should get better pretty quickly:-) I’ve had a number of people sign up for information about the trip. Please pass the word to your riding colleagues. I’m riding my Harley, but the ride is open to everyone. Watch the website for event participation signup information. I had my knee surgery this past week and the surgeon said I should be better than new in three months. Looking forward to it. I hope to see you along the Tour de USA® route!

Hog-Nuts, Diapers, and Parking Tickets

This weekend’s little Harley breakfast jaunt wound up at the Sidewalk Cafe in Venice , California, for coffee and brunch. It was another beautiful southern California day and everyone was zipping along the freeway. Imagine my surprise as I moved the toe of my boot to upshift to fifth gear and my boot went through thin air. I looked down and there was the shift lever with no shift peg! So, just a bit of practice and I was able to shift down by pushing down with the heel of my boot on the top of the lever. Upshifting was doable, but took a bit more contortion to get the toe of my boot under the lever. We stopped for a break and, amazingly, one of the guys had a spare peg in his saddlebag. I stopped at Bartel’s Harley in Venice on the way home and I now have two spare pegs in my saddlebags. My experience as an Army helicopter pilot should have reminded me that unless the bolts on vibrating things are secured with cotter pins or loctite and slippage marks, they will come loose at some point. So, my “pre-flgiht” will be more complete and loctite is now in my bags. 11 months before I launch on the Tour de USA for prostate cancer awareness. If you are watching the Gallup polls on consumer confidence, you will note that a majority of consumers (57%) believe the economy is continuing to worsen. This means that you still have an window of opportunity to improve the internal functioning of your business to be optimally structured to compete when the recovery comes.

OK, So Just What Does “Hot Waitress Economic Index” Mean?

Hot Waitresses is an index that indicates the state of the economy by measuring the number of attractive people working as waiters/waitresses. According to the hot waitress index, the higher the number of good looking servers, the weaker the current state of the economy. It is assumed that attractive individuals do not tend to have trouble finding high-paying jobs during good economics times. During poor economic times, these jobs will be more difficult to find and therefore more attractive people will be forced to work in lower paying jobs such as being waiters/waitresses.

How Many Will We See?

We have just 11 months before we depart Manhattan Beach, California on the inaugural Tour de USA for prostate cancer awareness. As a result, Robert Hess, Founder and President of the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project (PCaAP) and founding partner of TSG, Inc. embarked on a program to create a self-funding mechanism for the PCaAP.

Because the PCaAP uses bicycling events to disseminate it’s “Early Detection, Early Treatment” message and to drive healthy lifestyle activities, the logical choice was something related to cycling. The result, after 9 months of technical development led by TSG founding partner Prem Sundaram, is the MyBikeInfo iPhone application.

The application stores all of the information necessary for a proper positioning fit for an unlimited number of bicycles and includes the ability to create RSS feeds within the application. But you also can store lots of useful information about your motorcycle in the app. Robert has full information on his 4 bicycles and his 2004 Dyna Lowrider in his!

MyBikeInfo is available now in the iTunes application store. Full details are at http://www.mybikeinfo.com. Proceeds go to create prostate cancer awareness events and annual testing for men without medical insurance.

TSG, Inc. is pleased to pleased to support the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project in its mission of ensuring that no man is ever faced with a metatastic prostate cancer diagnosis. Follow this blog and visit our website at TourdeUSA.org for details.

Iron Horse Hotel

I haven't yet finalized a lot of the details about the 2010 Prostate Cancer Tour de USA, but I do know that I will be staying at the Iron Horse Hotel as I pass through Milwaukee. I will be having arthroscopic surgery on my knee in the fall to repair that torn meniscus. I'm delaying the surgery so that I can ride the first annual Alpe d'Huez prostate cancer awareness ride on July 12th, 2009. Combined with our prostate cancer awareness Tour de Skyline Drive at the end of August - and my business - it looks like surgery in October. So, I've officially decided to do the Tour de USA 2010 by motorcycle. Anyone out there who would like to join me on any of these events, just send contact me at Robert.Hess@29000men.org and I'll send you the details. Remember our moto: Test. Track. Treat. I met Jim Sayer, Adventure Cycling Executive Director, at Interbike 2008, where we talked about the trip and our objectives. Two weeks later Jim called and offered to help. We look forward to working with this wonderful organization as we plan the route. I'm working on getting more distance into my training program, moving from track training at the ADT velodrome in Los Angeles to climbing hills on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This past weekend I rode the 45 mile course of the inaugural Gran Fondo Colnago of San Diego. It was great fun. Over 1,000 riders participated in ride, quite an accomplishment for an event's first year. Ernesto Colnago flew in from Italy for the event. He greeted each wave of riders with a cheery "Ciao" and sent them on their way. The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project was in the Expo area talking with guys about checking that pesky PSA number. Score for the day: one live saved!

Track Your Training Program Online

The President's Challenge, a program of the President's Council on Physical Fitness, has a great little Internet tool for tracking all sorts of physical fitness activity.

Just go to http://www.PresidentsChallenge.com, create an account and you are on your way.
